I just create multiple full clones of any system boot drive. I am not a big fan of Snapshots or, really, Safety Net. I usually set it as a size no greater than 1 GB or 2 GB to avoid this fill the drive up stuff. Look for dropdown under ADVANCED SETTINGS. t deletes the stuff faster and more assuredly in my experience.Ģ-You can customize the Safety Net settings. I still haven't worked it all out.įor those using an older version of CCC or a system before Mojave without APFS.ġ-If you decide to delete the Safety Net folder, there is a menu item in the program under UTILITIES for deleting the Safety Net folder. The most recent version of CCC with APFS formatted drives (High Sierra and Mojave) changes things quite a bit. Thanks for joining the forum and posting that! Just understand the risk you take if you only make a clone (i.e. These are separate drives from the one that Time Machine backs up to.

I’d like a dedicated backup software that will back up files from one EHD to another. I’m currently using Time Machine to back up the OS which I’m OK with. There is a reason why real backup software (CCC is a clone utility) makes multiple copies of files that have changed. If you corrupt the original file, or simply do something stupid with it, and you don't realise this until CCC has run, it will have overwritten the only good copy you had if you don't use this safety feature. It's dangerous to think that you only need one copy of your working files. I will have to go through and check to see if they are somehow duplicates of good copies of the items I have on the main drive. It must be in the form of ripped movies I somehow altered. That frees up over 340 GB which is quite a chunk of the SSD. Since I only need one backup copy of files and docs, the safety net file can be trashed. Even a 1TB backup drive can fill up quickly if safety net is turned on. Much thanks to all who helped with the answer. I have mine set to 30 days and it has come in handy when files have gotten deleted or corrupted and i could retrieve a good copy of them. Some noticeable features that make EaseUS Todo Backup as an ideal CCC alternative are listed below. You can turn off safety net or go into the settings and set a limit on how many days you want to keep.
